About the Artist

A little bit about me...

My name's Lisa but most people call me Sprite. I'm 32 and live in a suburbish borough of New York...

I have 5 cats, a couple of frogs, love trees, science, nature and all of its creatures.
I'm a mixed media artist; a self taught creator.

I love working with apoxie sculpt, polymer clay, glass shards, metals, natural and/or found items, papers, fibers, textures and lots and lots of glue!  I often sculpt miniature realistic dragons amongst many other things but usually never know what will come out next.

My creations tend to be otherworldly, mechanical, and/or creaturesq yet organic in nature.
My inspiration(s) drawn from nature itself and from the mysterious world that resides within me.
There, its inhabitants quietly gaze among cliffs, rock formations, crystals, geodes, trees and a broken earth...
They're often mutations of a human-like form but born from and pieced together through earths fragments.

Some history:
For as long as I can remember I have had a strong desire and need to create.

Growing up I was always drawing... it was my greatest escape, and it was all mine. I'd get lost in the pages, suddenly stop and notice these creatures appearing on the paper out of nowhere. I wasn't sure what I was seeing or where they were coming from, but I couldn't stop them from coming or existing. On a planet, similar to ours, broken...there were life forms, similar to but different than ours.. dragonesque and lizard-like creatures, winged ladies, humanoids who were sometimes part earth, part machine, part creature...I would fill page after page, book after book of these creatures and visions and put them away where no one would see them. It was hard for me to imagine anyone could see these things as I did (and certainly couldn’t imagine they wouldn’t think I was nuts for it!) So for a long time I just hide that world out of a fear, thankfully, now in my 30's, I'm finally learning to embrace it.

During that time, I've spent much of my life learning and experimenting with different mediums in search of finding one that allowed me to really embrace and express this mysterious world that lives inside my heart...and my head. Drawing, writing, sculpting, painting, graphic arts, mixing up some media, etc… and through much experimenting and the friendship, guidance and encouragement of some pretty amazing artists I've found that it is a combination of the things I've learned and enjoyed using all of these years that can be put into each sculpted piece. Awesome!

There is something truly amazing about being able to hold something you have envisioned for so long. I'm looking forward to finally sharing my little secret with you... I hope to capture these beings, as real as I have seen them and hope you will enjoy them as much as I have. With each one comes a piece of me.

Thank you so much for taking a moment to stop by and learn a little about me.
